About the Artist
The name? Perla Gonzalez.
and currently attending Reagan High School as a senior.
I am still 17 and going about life.
All formalities aside, I am a conglomeration of the little things in life. Those melodies on the back of Frank Ocean songs, the spaces between words in my poems and the souls behind every book I’ve read. I like to believe that I am composed of the characters I lived in performance class, of the languages I have a greed for and the restlessness of my curiosity about things. Sure, I admit I am quiet and afraid, but I know my fears.
That’s exactly how I amuse myself, however, that's a story for another day. Now, moving on to the focus of this website:
I don't know what it means to be an artist.
I first began to experiment with the concept of art on the kitchen wall while armed with a box of crayolas. I honestly thought my masterpieces on that kitchen wall put Da Vinci and Picasso at shame but I was just 3 years old and too excited about blank kitchen walls.
I think I grew since then.
Art is too complex yet so simple, I took it as a way to cope with myself and my sudden philosophies of the enigmatic paradox that is life. Some other times it was just "meaningless".
In fact, some of those exact circumstances are reflected in this portfolio of mine as I explore different artistic techniques. From linoleum block printing to photography all the way to working with crayolas again. I hope you enjoy this little mess of mine as much as I enjoy putting it together.
